Vietnam Visa

From January 1st, 2015, the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of aliens in Vietnam in 2014 officially take effect. There have been new regulations related to granting of visas (referred to as visa) for each object who enters resides in Vietnam.

The Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of aliens in Vietnam in 2014 stipulates new symbol types and validity of each symbol visa for aliens in Vietnam.

Types of visa symbols include:

  1. NG1 – granting to members of delegations invited by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the Chairman of the National Assembly, the Prime Minister.
  2. NG2 – granting to members of delegations invited by the Permanent Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vice President, the Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, the Chief Procurator of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, the State Auditor General; Members of delegations of the same and equivalent level of the Ministers, the Secretaries of Provincial and City Party Committees, the Chairmen of the People’s Councils, Chairmen of the People’s Committees of the central provinces and cities.
  3. NG3 – granting to members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations of the United Nations, representative agencies of intergovernmental organizations and spouses, children under 18 years, helpers accompanying the office term.
  4. NG4 – granting to the ones who enter to work with diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations of the United Nations, representative agencies of intergovernmental organizations; the ones who enter to visit members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, representative offices of international organizations of the United Nations, representative agencies of intergovernmental organizations.
  5. LV1 – Granting to the ones who enter to work with central departments and agencies, units of the Communist Party of Vietnam; National Assembly, the Government and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the State Auditor, ministries, ministerial-level agencies, government agencies; Provincial and City Party Committees, People’s Councils, People’s Committees of the central provinces and cities.
  6. LV2- Granting to the ones who enter to work with political – social organizations, social organizations, Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Vietnam.
  7. DT – Granting to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.
  8. DN – Granting to the ones enter to work with the enterprises in Vietnam.
  9. NN1 – Granting to the ones who are the Heads of Representative Offices, the projects of international organizations, non-governmental organizations in Vietnam.
  10. NN2 – Granting to the heads of representative offices and branches of foreign traders, representative offices of economic, cultural organizations and other professional organizations of aliens in Vietnam.
  11. NN3 – Granting to the ones who enter to work with foreign non-governmental organizations, representative offices and branches of foreign traders, representative offices of economic, cultural organizations and other foreign professional organizations in Vietnam.
  12. DH – Granting to the ones who enter to practice and study.
  13. HN – Granting to the ones who enter to attend conferences and seminars.
  14. PV1 – Granting to journalists permanently residing in Vietnam.
  15. PV2 – Granting to journalists to enter for short-term working in Vietnam.
  16. LD – Granting to employees.
  17. DL – Granting to the ones who enter to travel.
  18. TT – Granting to aliens who are spouses, children under 18 years of the aliens granted visas with symbols LV1, LV2, DT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LD or aliens who are fathers, mothers, spouses and children of Vietnamese citizens.
  19. VR – Granting to the ones who enter to visit relatives or for other purposes.
  20. SQ – Granting to the cases specified in Clause 3 of Article 17 of this Law.

Validity of visa

  1. Visas with symbol SQ hold validity not more than 30 days.
  2. Visas with symbols HN, DL hold validity not more than 03 months.
  3. Visas with symbol VR hold validity not more than 06 months.
  4. Visas with symbols NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, LV1, LV2, DN, NN1, NN2, NN3, DH, PV1, PV2 and TT hold validity not more than 12 months.
  5. Visas with symbol LD hold validity not more than 02 years.
  6. Visas with symbol DT hold validity not more than 05 years.
  7. Expired visas are considered to be re-issued.

8. The visa validity is shorter than the validity of passport or valid documents for international travel at least 30 days.
