Temporary residence card (TRC) for foreigners living in Vietnam

According to the Law entry, exit, transit, and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014; Temporary residence card is issued by the Immigration authority or competent authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreigners are allowed to stay temporality in Vietnam and valid to replace Visa.

  • Foreigners are member of Diplomatic missions, consulate offices, representative offices of international organizations affiliated to the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses, children under 18 years of age, housemaid go along the term as NG3 (NG3 – granted to member of Diplomatic missions, consulate offices, representative offices of international organizations affiliated to the United Nations, intergovernmental organizations in Vietnam and their spouses, children under 18 years of age, housemaid go along the term).
  • Foreigners who are granted LV1, LV2, DDT, NN1, DH PV1, LĐ, TT are considered to grant a temporary residence card with the same symbol as the visa under the Law entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam 2014. This law sets new symbols and the duration of each type of visa for foreigners in Vietnam.

The meaning of visa’s symbol

  • LV1 – Granted to people working for the Party Central Committee, National Assembly, Government, the President, and guests of equivalent ranks of the ministers, vice ministers, presidents and vice presidents of committees provinces and cities directly under the Central Government
  • LV2 – Granted to the people working for social organizations, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry
  • ĐT – Granted for person who come to invest in Vietnam or lawyers that practicing their profession in Vietnam
  • NN1 – Granted for person who is the head of representative offices and Non-Governmental Organizations in Vietnam
  • NN2 – Granted for person who is the head of representative offices, branch of economic organization, culture and other professional organizations of foreign non-governmental organizations based in Vietnam
  • NN3 – Granted for person to people working for the Non-Governmental Organizations, representative offices, branch of economic organization, culture and other professional organizations of foreign in Vietnam.
  • TT – Granted for person who enter Vietnam for purposes of visiting spouses, children who are Vietnamese or foreign holding Vietnam visa with symbol LV1, LV2, ĐT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, LĐ.
