What is a G1 online game license in Vietnam?

G1 online game license (G1 electronic game license): is a type of license issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications to electronic game businesses that have interactions between many players at the same time through the business’s game server system.

Accordingly, to be allowed to provide G1 online game services, businesses need to meet certain conditions and must carry out procedures to apply for a G1 online game license.

Pursuant to Point a, Clause 1, Article 31 of Decree 72/2013/ND-CP, online electronic games are classified according to the method of service provision and use as follows: Classification according to the method of service provision and use, including:

• Online games have interaction between many players at the same time through the enterprise’s game server system (abbreviated as game G1)
• Online games only have interaction between players and the business’s game server system (abbreviated as game G2)
• Online games have interaction between many players but no interaction between players and the business’s game server system (abbreviated as game G3)
• Online games are downloaded over the network, there is no interaction between players and between players and the business’s game server system (abbreviated as game G4)

Steps to register for G1 game license in Vietnam

Step 3: The Electronic Game Appraisal Advisory Council established and operating under the Decision of the Minister of Information and Communications will appraise the G1 online game licensing dossiers of enterprises.

Conditions for registration to provide G1 online game services

According to Article 32 of Decree 72/2013/ND-CP (amended in Decree 27/2018/ND-CP), enterprises are granted a License to provide G1 online game services when they meet the following conditions:

• Being an enterprise established by the provisions of Vietnamese law, with the business line of providing online electronic game services that have been posted on the enterprise’s National Business Registration Information Portal;
• Registered domain name used to provide services;
• Have measures to ensure information safety and information security.
• Have sufficient financial, technical, and human resources capacity appropriate to the scale of operations and according to the following regulations:
  • Have a head office with a clear and accessible address and contact phone number;
  • Have at least 01 electronic game administrator;
  • The system of equipment providing electronic game services for all games of the enterprise ensures that it meets the conditions prescribed by law.
  • Have technical and professional measures to manage game forum content (if any), in compliance with legal regulations.
  • Have backup plans for equipment and connections, and data backup plans to ensure system safety when an incident occurs.
  • Have a plan to ensure safety, information security, and confidentiality of players’ personal information.
